WEP and GPO Repealed

The Social Security Fairness Act of 2025 repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). The law went into effect on January 5, 2025, and applies retroactively to January 2024. The Social Security Administration (SSA) estimates that it could take a year or more to fully restore benefits.
